History of Sarajevo brewery

Sarajevo Brewery (Sarajevska pivara d.d.) was founded on May 24, 1864, and is considered by historians to be the oldest industrial plant in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is the only European brewery that maintained continuous production during both the Ottoman Empire and the rule of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. By 1907, the Brewery had become the largest in the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Even during the most difficult period, during the aggression against our country from 1992 to 1995, production was never interrupted. The Sarajevo Brewery building is one of the most attractive structures in Sarajevo, featuring an architectural style that blends Oriental and classical European design. For us, the Brewery is not merely a facility where beer is produced; it is a part of Bosnia and Herzegovina's cultural and historical heritage.

Museum and Visits

We are proud of our history, and that is why we have established a Museum within the Sarajevo Brewery—the only one of its kind in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The museum exhibition is divided into different periods: the Ottoman Empire and the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, the World Wars, the Socialist period, and the period after the aggression on Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The museum is open to visitors from Monday to Saturday, from 11:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
The ticket price, which includes a visit to the Museum, is 5 KM (EUR 2,50).
Open hours: Monday – Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
